Shadow-Lord Iskar is a boss in the Hellfire Citadel in Tanaan Jungle. Tired of being wingless and tempted by the words of Gul'dan, Iskar turned his back on his people following the Spires of Arak storyline and joined the Shadow Council. Iskar now has his wings, illusionary powers, and a cult of corrupted arakkoa at his thrall.
The fight alternates between fighting Iskar himself and the arakkoa adds he summons and focuses around utilizing [The Eye of Anzu] to dispel the illusions that Iskar places on the raid, passing it between players to dispel harmful debuffs and helping to stop the adds.
Background[]
Adventure Guide[]
After Iskar's efforts to resurrect Terokk and return to power ended in frustration, he was approached by Gul'dan with an offer and a promise to break the ancient curse of Sethe. No longer flightless, elevated from the shadows yet still a master of illusion and deception, Iskar's hour of vengeance is at hand.
Designer notes[]
If something seemed suspicious about Shadow-Seer Iskar as you quested through the Spires of Arak, you weren’t mistaken. This was a fun encounter for the group to brainstorm, beginning with the premise of illusions and an artifact that let a single player see through those illusions, and weaving that concept through multiple abilities and interactions.
Overview[]
Shadow-Lord Iskar weaves illusions that deceive the raid, but the nearby Eye of Anzu provides the key to seeing through the twisted arakkoa's deception. Players may pass the Eye around among raid members to counter specific attacks of Iskar and his minions. Periodically, Iskar takes to the skies and channels powerful beams of fel energy, as his minions swoop down to attack on the ground.
Damage Dealers[]
- Pass the Eye of Anzu to players affected by Phantasmal Winds or Phantasmal Wounds.
- Move away from other players if targeted by Fel Chakram.
- Hold the Eye of Anzu to be able to interrupt Shadowfel Warden's Fel Conduit.
Healers[]
- Pass the Eye of Anzu to players affected by Phantasmal Winds.
- Focus healing on allies affected by Phantasmal Wounds or pass the Eye of Anzu to them.
- Move away from other players if targeted by Fel Chakram.

Shadow-Lord Iskar[]
- Focused Blast — Hurls a beam of fel energy, inflicting 1000000 Fire damage split between enemy targets in front of the caster.
- Phantasmal Winds — Overwhelms enemies with the illusion of wind that pushes them towards the edge of the cliff. Holding the Eye of Anzu removes the illusion.
- Fel Chakram — Shadow-Lord Iskar hurls a Fel Chakram that ricochets off three players before returning to him. Upon impact with these targets, the chakram will explode, inflicting up to 130000 Fire damage to all enemies based on their proximity to the explosion. Additionally, this chakram inflicts 130000 Fire damage to any players through which it passes on the way to the target.
- Phantasmal Wounds — Shadow-Lord Iskar unleashes phantasmal bolts that wound their targets, causing them to bleed profusely until healed past 90% of their maximum health. Phantasmal Radiance[]
- Chains of Despair — Links pairs of enemies together with Dark Bindings. The Eye of Anzu enables you to see who you are partnered with.
- Dark Bindings — Phantasmal chains attach you to another, inflicting 30000 Shadow damage every 1.5 sec. for 30 sec. While chained Abandoned Hope will be triggered if Dark Bindings expires, your partner dies, or you stand near anyone with Dark Bindings that is not your partner. Abandoned Hope will inflict 1425000 to 1575000 Shadow damage if triggered. Standing near your partner will dispel the chains.

Illusionary Outcast[]
Strategy[]
The fight requires 2 tanks to switch for Iskar's chakram attack, in addition to one being the designated holder of the Eye of Anzu during the add phase. Save [Bloodlust] for the third and final add phase. Before the fight, it is highly recommended that players download the "Iskar Assist" mod through Curse as it will make passing the Eye to other players far easier. Holding the eye causes a debuff that hurts the one holding it and stacks. Have a healer and a tank, or 2 healers, constantly toss it between them to keep stacks low while still performing the abilities the Eye grants them.
Iskar begins the fight alone until 75% HP. Pull the boss back to the middle of the room and have ranged back towards the door. He will target 3 players (a ranged, a melee, and his current tank) with a Fel Chakram that will cause AOE damage on contact. Make 3 markers to the right side of the room, spaced out so the targeted players can run there and get hit without damaging anyone else. Ranged players will sometimes be targeted by Fel Incineration, a green laser which leaves permanent fire in its wake. Run to the left side of the room while avoiding the laser. Lastly, Iskar will cast Phantasmal Winds on several raid members, causing them to be pushed towards the cliff and eventually fall to their death if not dispelled. It can only be removed by throwing the Eye of Anzu at an affected player. Once a player is dispelled, he must throw the Eye at others who are affected by the winds until everyone is dispelled, at which point it should be thrown back to the designated holders.
At 75%, Iskar flies off the platform and leaves you to fight a Corrupted Talonpriest and several Illusionary Outcasts. The raid should be split into the melee and ranged groups so they can soak Iskar's Focus Blast together. The outcasts can be quickly cleaved down, but the Talonpriest takes priority. It will cast Phantasmal Felbomb, a magic-effect debuff, and several normal fel bombs on several players. Only a healer holding the Eye can see the Phantasmal Fel Bomb and dispelling the Phantasmal Fel Bomb will immediately get rid of all other bombs. A healer must be ready to dispel the player with Phantasmal Fel Bomb, dispel it, throw it to someone else to let the harmful stacks fall off, then throw it back to the healer so he can be ready to dispel it once again. You should be able to focus down the Talonpriest before Iskar comes back down. Iskar repeats his abilities he had in phase 1.
At 50%, Iskar takes off again and the same priest and outcasts attack, but along with one Shadowfel Warden, a corrupted Apexis guardian. This phase is where the fight gets more intense. In addition to the healer dispelling the fel bombs, a tank who has the adds must interrupt the warden's shadowfel lightning to stop it from killing the dps. The tank can only do this if he/she has the Eye and does a melee spell interrupt while the warden is casting. The raid can either throw the Eye to who needs it, watching the dbm timer for ability times, or constantly toss the Eye back and forth between the healer and tank so whoever needs it immediately has it. The second method is arguably faster but takes more precise timing. Kill the warden, then the priest. Always finish off adds before going back to dps'ing Iskar.
Finally, at 25% Iskar will take flight one last time and puts one last add into the mix: a Fel raven. The raven hits tanks hard so decide beforehand which will take the arakkoa, and who will be taking the raven and warden. The kill order is 'raven > warden > priest > outcasts.' Pop cooldowns and bring down the fel raven first. The tank fighting the raven will be infected with Phantasmal Corruption, causing significant stacking fire damage to him/her and the raid. Having the tank of the raven the sameone taking the warden allows them to use the Eye for both purposes. Similar to Phantasmal Winds, the debuff will be dispelled if the tank is holding the Eye, which makes good timing on throwing the Eye between the healer and tank essential. This is yet another reason the strategy of constantly throwing the Eye back and forth during the add phases like a game of hot potato between tank and healer is a popular strategy. It is unlikely the raid will be able to finish off all adds before Iskar comes back down, but at least the raven should be down and the warden almost dead. If not, managing the adds' debuffs while also saving people from Phantasmal Winds may prove too much to handle and wipe the raid. Once adds are all dead, Iskar will use his normal abilities until death. Unless the raid hits the enrage timer, if they clear the third add phase, they have effectively won the fight.
