Shadow serpents are tamable by hunters as part of the serpent family. They became tamable in patch 8.3.0.

They resemble eels and are closely associated with the aquatic, but any relation between the two is unknown.
The name shadow serpent comes from the sound file names introduced for them which are called Shadow_Serpent in the game files.^[1]
