Shattered Vials were used in Alchemy as an ingredient for potions requiring a skill of 400-435. They were available from most Trade Goods Vendors in infinite supply and stacks in groups of 20.

Patch changes

• Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Alchemy recipes now require Crystal Vials. Deathwing broke all the others because he's mean (or because he didn't want alchemists to carry 5 different vials around with them).
