Shy-Rotam is the matriarch of the frostsabers, residing in Winterspring. With Cataclysm, Shy-Rotam became a permanent quest mob instead of a summoned spawn, enabling hunters of a high enough level to tame her at any time.

History

Around 4,000 years ago, the leader of the frostsabers was saved by Tyrande Whisperwind from the frostmaul giants. Since then, the frostsabers have been allies of the night elves.^[1]

Rivern Frostwind continues to protect her and the frostsabers from the frostmaul giants by sending Alliance heroes against them.^[1]

Storm Shadowhoof wants Shy-Rotam killed and is sending Horde and Alliance^[2] heroes to hunt her down.^[3] Shy-Rotam is summoned by using [Sacred Frostsaber Meat] at the Stone of Shy-Rotam. When her health is low, her mate Sian-Rotam comes to her aid.

Abilities

Rend — Inflicts Physical damage to an enemy every 3 sec. for 15 sec.
Tendon Rip — Reduces an enemy's movement speed for 5 sec.
Terrifying Roar — Causes nearby enemies to flee in fear for 5 sec.

Shy'Rotam rules a great pride of sabertooth cats from Frostsaber Rock.^[4]

Notes

When tamed, Shy-Rotam was identical in appearance to Rak'shiri before Patch 4.0.3a, which changed Rak'shiri from aqua to white and thus made Shy-Rotam the only tamable skin of her kind. They are based on mount skins, thus when originally viewed in the hunter's pet window, the model was placed lower than normal pet models, since the viewer was leaving room for a rider to be shown.

Patch changes

Patch 4.0.3a (2010-11-23): Level reduced from 60 to 53. Changed to permanent spawn.
Patch 2.3.0 (2007-11-13): Elite status removed.
