Steamy Romance Novel

The Steamy Romance Novels, collectively known as the Steamy Romance saga,^[1] are a series of erotic novels and in-game junk book items that were first introduced in The Burning Crusade, with new entries added with successive expansions. Most of the books, which are filled with double entendres and "tawdry tales of carnality",^[2] are centered around the paladin Marcus and his encounters with various love interests.

Francis Serbacon, Bill Spearshaker, and Noah Scribeson all claim to be the author of the series. However, when encountered by scribes, both Francis and Bill claim to have grown tired of writing the novels and offer the scribe the opportunity to continue the series themselves using a [Steamy Romance Novel Kit].^[3]^[4]

In addition to the entries listed above, Chronicler Shoopa apparently found a romance novel about Marcus seducing a naga.^[5]
Professor Pallin is a fan of the novels, though he claims that he only reads them "for the penmanship".^[3] Mathias Shaw, on the other hand, has a low opinion of the books and calls them "potboilers".^[6] Zhakloskar was given a book about Marcus' adventures by a citizen of Stormwind, and stated that he liked it.^[7]
The novels are indirectly used in the secret communication between the Explorers' League and the SI:7. In order to get the title of one of the encoded books guarded by Bill Spearshaker in the Ironforge Library, SI:7 agents need to quote a title from one of the Steamy Romance Novels. Mathias Shaw suspects that Bill does this both to sell more books and because he enjoys seeing the discomfort on Shaw's face.^[6]
Martar the Not-So-Smart in the northeastern Jade Forest has a chance to drop most of the Steamy Romance Novels.
[A Steamy Romance Saga] is an achievement earned for reading every Steamy Romance Novel during the Thrashbite the Scornful encounter in the Cathedral of Eternal Night.
[Steamy Essence] is jokingly described as "A common ingredient in Steamy Romance Novels".
