Stonescale Eel is obtained by fishing and is a component in [Stonescale Oil] (made with Alchemy). The eels and their alchemic products are used in high-level potions used by raiders, Craftsman's Writ quests for Argent Dawn reputation, and a Tier 0.5 armor set quest. As a result, stonescale eel is one of the most lucrative fish one can catch.
Sources[]
Stonescale Eels are nocturnal so the best time to catch them is between the hours of 12 am and 6 am. They require a minimum skill in fishing of around 180 + lures. The best place to catch eels is any deep water location in Azshara, the most popular being Scalebeard's Cave and by Duke Hydraxis. Expect around 10% drop rate when fishing. A higher rate can be obtained from around the cave in the bay, but this requires a minimum fishing skill of 235 just to be allowed to fish there. At this skill level, though, most of the fish will "get away". Schools of stonescale eels appear off the main coast of Azshara during the night hours (during the day the spawn points are usually filled with firefin snappers and oily blackmouth).

Notes[]
As of Patch 1.11 there are Swarms of Stonescale Eels that function much like schools of other valuable fish. They can be found along coastlines in Blasted Lands, Swamp of Sorrows, Tanaris and Thousand Needles. The Argent Dawn is also gaining several quests for the eels, both directly and crafted into items, so demand should stay steady or even increase.
