“Whether it's quilboar or Horde invaders, the people of this valley stand tall.”
Stormsong Valley is the northernmost region of Kul Tiras, bordered by the Tiragarde Sound region to the south. This valley is the home to House Stormsong and is the breadbasket of Kul Tiras[1]. These verdant highlands and foothills provide Kul Tiras with food as well as ship production. The Stormsong builds[2] and blesses all Kul Tiran vessels, and Tidesages from Sagehold board the largest ones for guidance at sea.
Lumber comes in from the forests north of Tiragarde Sound, and it gets floated down the Twin Rivers to Mariner's Strand, the Kul Tiras's hub of ship production. There are a number of businesses devoted to ship production on the island, most notably the Brineworks and Addington Shipyards.
Recently, a number of events like House Stormsong's fall to Queen Azshara, the Horde's invasions, and aggression from the Briarback quilboar have heralded a time of chaos for the inhabitants of the valley. The Storm's Wake is a militia group that has taken up arms to protect the people of Stormsong against these threats. This group is mainly based out of the largest and most central town, Brennadam.
History[]
It is ruled by House Stormsong, and the people of the region are devoted to the sea with a fanatical, religious fervor.[3] This includes the religious sect known as the Tidesages. It was the current Lord Stormsong's father who led the Tidesages to the valley.[4] Stormsong Valley contributes the largest amount of ships–and of the highest quality–to Kul Tiras, and the Tidesages bless each ship methodically. All of its people are devoted to this singular endeavor, but recent troubles have led to a stoppage of construction. The Alliance will need to get to the bottom of this to secure their new navy.[5]
Geography[]
Stormsong Valley's southern extent is created by a range of tall, pointed mountain peaks which separate the region from Tiragarde Sound and the rest of Kul Tiras. The city of Brennadam sits just north of the Highland Pass, the region's only passable connection through these mountains. Far to the west of the pass and in the mountain foothills, Widow's Peak rises above Sprucewood, where a group of ettins call home. Between the peak and the mountain range is the Briarback Kraul, a gorge settled by the Briarback quillboar. Beyond that, the western extent of the foothills ends with Beryl Meadow and the Roaring Highland. Here, the Kul Tirans have settled Millstone Hamlet and Seabreeze Village.
Stormsong Valley's northern extent is formed by a range of smaller peaks, comprising (from west to east) Gale's Rest, Stormwatch Peak, Tidebreak Summit, and the Shrine of the Storm. Gale's Rest is accessible via Shatterfall Pass, which leads directly to the Horde's settlement Warfang Hold and the Clearcut. Numerous rivers drain through the Tidebreak Foothills. Rising from the waters northeast of Kraken's Reach is the mountainous Shrine of the Storm, known to be the seat of power for both House Stormsong and the tidesages. Its very foundations are carved into the rocky outcroppings, and the face of the kraken adorns its ancient structures.[6]
Between these ranges are the verdant, boulder-strewn hills of Stormsong Valley proper. The valley is divided by the Windshorn Hills, where Brennadam is. To the west of the divide is a former bay, recently reclaimed by the Kul Tirans to provide for more farmland. In its current state, the bay comprises the Briny Flats and the Drowned Lands, and in the middle is the town of Deadwash. The levée at Eventide Delta is protected by Fort Daelin.
To the east of the Windshorn Hills, rivers drain through foothills and highlands into Kraken's Reach. A shallow island called Mariner's Strand serves as Kul Tiras's primary hub for ship construction. South of the strand are the foothills which boast Rosaline's Apiary and the Mildenhall Meadery, and further southwest (in the direction of Highland Pass) are the dangerous Highland Flats and Scalespine Hill. North of Mariner's Strand is the village of Tidecross, with Port Fogtide to its east. Above the port, high in the Tidebreak Foothills, is the city of Sagehold.
The lands of Stormsong Valley are lush with green grasses and rock-strewn rolling hills. Wildlife and plant growth thrive here, fed by the inland streams and the invigorating sea air. It is a region made rich by the harmony between both land and sea. The Highland Pass is the only land route into Stormsong Valley, but a blockade halts passage between Brennadam and the rest of Kul Tiras. On the western coast, Fort Daelin protects a levee holding back the sea from sinking the area. Emboldened by the soldiers neglecting their duties, the territorial quilboar are encroaching on the south.[6]
