Strom'kar, the Warbreaker is the artifact two-handed sword used by arms warriors in World of Warcraft: Legion. It previously belonged to King Thoradin, the barbarian warlord who first united humanity and founded the nation of Arathor, and was lost while it was being used to subdue the C'Thraxxi monstrosity, Zakajz the Corruptor, in a forgotten tomb beneath Tirisfal Glades.
Source[]
Strom'kar is obtained by warriors from the quest [10-45] The Sword of Kings, given by Odyn in Skyhold.
Description[]
Artifact reveal[]
This greatsword was borne into combat by the barbarian warlord who first united humanity under a single banner, founding the nation of Arathor. A master tactician and strategist, King Thoradin went on to play a critical role in ending the Troll Wars. Later the sword was lost while it was being used to subdue a C'Thraxxi monstrosity in a forgotten tomb beneath Tirisfal. Abandoned and all but forgotten, Strom'kar has been slowly drinking from the shadowy power there over thousands of years.[1]
In-game description[]
The first king of the humans, Thoradin, was a mighty ruler and a mighty warrior. He carried with him a greatsword forged by vrykul, empowered by elves, and bloodied on the fields of countless battles. Strom'kar, ender of wars, was lost with Thoradin. One strong enough to recover the sword would bring to bear a blade unlike any seen in the ages since.[2]
Artifact lore[]
- Main article: Saga of the Valarjar
Human history is not complete without mention of Strom'kar. With this blade, a visionary warlord named Thoradin united his race into a single nation. He led his people to victory against the trolls in one of the greatest wars humankind has ever fought. He changed the destiny of the world. Strom'kar's story is one of violence and bloodshed, of cunning and desperation. And, ultimately, of bravery and sacrifice.
History[]
United Humans - Thoradin[]
Stated by the deceased King Thoradin, Strom'kar was forged by a master swordsmith and imbued with elven magics.[3]
Before founding Arathor, Thoradin convinced all of the human tribal leaders he recruited to lend him their personal blades, after which Arathi blacksmiths took shards of metal from each weapon and added them to the king's greatsword. This secured the eternal loyalty of the tribes, for many early human warlords believed that the spirits of their ancestors lived on in their weapons, and no one would ever dare rise up against Thoradin and risk striking the sword that contained their own forefathers. When the work was done, Thoradin renamed his sword Strom'kar, the Warbreaker.[4][3]
With Arathor's founding, Thoradin used Strom'kar to carve out the boundaries of Strom in the dirt and ordered his masons to begin construction.[4]
Troll Wars - High Elf[]
- Main article: Troll Wars
One account tells of an Amani troll ambush that separated the king from his warriors. Though he was outnumbered ten to one, Thoradin did not flee or cower. He sharpened Strom'kar's edge on the skulls of his enemies and painted its steel with their blood. When his guards reached him, they found the king standing over ten broken Amani corpses.[4][3] Using Strom'kar during the war, Thoradin violently carved a path to the southern side of Quel'Thalas to assist Arathor's high elf allies with his men. After the Troll War, Thoradin's group left Quel'Thalas.[4]
Before Thoradin left Quel'Thalas, King Anasterian Sunstrider had the elves' greatest blacksmiths and enchanters to give the human king a gift by imbuing Strom'kar with extraordinary power, making it weigh almost nothing in the king's hands and ensuring that it would never lose its edge.[4]
Thoradin abdicated in his elderly years and spent some time in Tirisfal studying its ruins and becoming obsessed with the humanity's history as well as that of the vrykul. Using the elven enchantments of Strom'kar, he located Tyr's tomb.[4]
Unlike previous human chieftains, Thoradin took Strom'kar with him with his abdication. By then, Strom'kar has subconsciously spread among human society as a symbol of kingship. He wished to prevent his citizens to become dependent on an object to crown the right to rule the future.[4]
Tomb of Tyr - Zakajz[]
The sword's elven enchantments forced the C'Thrax into a deep slumber and kept it from regenerating for centuries. However, due to constant contact, Strom'kar gained shadow attributes into itself when retrieved later.[4][3]

Notes[]
- The Axe of Cenarius was considered by Blizzard for the artifact for Arms, but the developers thought that a wooden, nature-themed axe didn't fit the class.[5] Ultimately, Strom'kar was used instead.
- Wielding the weapon near trolls may force them to flee in fear.[6]
- In Heroes of the Storm, Sonya wields the Arcanite Bladebreaker and Wrath's Edge as part of her Legion's Wrath skin.[7]
