The Survivor Assistance Facilitation Expedition, or S.A.F.E., is a gnome organization, led by Nevin Twistwrench, designed to help surviving gnomes escape the city of Gnomeregan.[1] It was formed shortly after Operation: Gnomeregan after it was radiated by Mekgineer Thermaplugg for the second time.
These brave gnomes don't just handle survivors and help them escape, but also help them reenter gnomish society by cleansing them from the radiation and take down dangerous enemies. While most gnomes who have been in contact with the radiation for a long time, the team is always willing to do their best to remove it from their patients before it overtakes them.[2] While their main objective is to evacuate the survivors,[3] they also seek to reduce the leper gnomes as a way of clearing to reclaim the halls of the city and to protect the survivors.[4]
They use Target Acquisition Devices to keep the radiated leper gnomes at a distance. They also use teleport beacons to bring them and the survivors out of Gnomeregan, but they are for emergencies only. Their final piece of technology is the Sanitron 500, which is used to clean the irradiated.
A section in their organization is called the G-Team.[5] They were hired by Gelbin Mekkatorque to advance deep in the city in order to handle Thermaplugg and his lieutenants.[4][6][7]
As Mathias Shaw references Sicco being dead,[8] it appears that following Operation: Gnomeregan, they finally succeeded in eliminating Thermaplugg with the help of adventurers.[9]
