Enraged Panther is listed in the list of 'big cats' twice. Not sure how to fix it... --Azaram 02:39, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Four names for one cat?[]

Aren't cougars, pumas, mountain lions, and panthers just different names for the same cat? I know panthers have a different color, but Puma has a red link and the Cougar and Mountain Lion share the same image on their pages.[1]  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 03:18, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Replace "same cat" with "same model" and you may be on to something. Kirkburn  talk  contr 03:27, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Aren't cougars, pumas, mountain lions, and panthers just different names for the same model?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 03:41, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but it is entirely normal to reuse models, and it has little bearing on the links between the species. Kirkburn  talk  contr 03:45, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
That is the thing though. All four are one species, and not four different species. Cougar=Puma=Mountain Lion=Panther. They are not different species like a lion and a tiger.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 03:54, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
You're trying to compare real world zoology to Azerothian zoology. Don't. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 03:58, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
That is what I am asking. Are these cats not like real world zoology? In WoW, are they four seperate species?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 04:02, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I see his point though. The names are variant depending on region. Perhaps a merge would be sensible, but I am not sure. Kirkburn  talk  contr 04:05, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Panthers, Mountain Lions, Cougars, are seperate mobs in World of Warcraft. The rpg has them all seperated as well IIRC
Point of note, while cougars and pumas are the same animal. Panthers can refer to several different animals including cougars, leopards or jaguars which are each separate types of cats (under two seperate genera). Panther can also refer to the genus Panthera (lions, tigers, oh my). Cougars are of the genus "Puma". Pumas also include the Puma yagouaroundi, the jaguarundi.
But that's getting too far into real world zoology... But the point was to show even in real world the terms may have several different uses and meanings.Baggins (talk) 08:37, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
What does IIRC mean?
Well I was just going by [2] which at the top of the page lists all four names as also known as. Remember also known as means equal you told me. Although it isn't a lore source, when you have two or more cats on wowwiki sharing the same image, it does support that source.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 08:47, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
If I Recall Correctly...
Let me warn you, Wowwiki is not wikipedia, and wikipedia is not a valid source for warcraft information. That may be how it is in the real world, but doesn't necessarily apply to the Warcraft Universe.
Also if you want to learn more you might look through the puma, panther and cougar disambiguation pages on Wikipedia for alternate definitions for those terms. Panther certainly refers more to than just mountain lions. Puma can refer to more than just mountain lions as well. Just remember that they have no baring on warcraft universe.Baggins (talk) 08:54, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I do see that although like you said those are alternate definitions and getting far into zoology. So are at least Mountain Lions and Cougars the same animal?  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 09:09, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
In real life sure, but that's getting too far into zoology. In WoW they are treated as seperate mobs.Baggins (talk) 09:13, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Well okay.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 09:23, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Puma[]

By the way, where in the world did Puma come from? I cannot find one in WoW and I don't know if it is from a RPG.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 04:48, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay I found your quote. Although it is a bit vague as it just refers to a puma pelt lying in a corner.  Rolandius Paladin (talk - contr) 08:53, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Split?[]

Where is the split discussion? David Shepheard (talk) 14:39, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Cleanup[]

I think it's time we had a little re-organization of all these pages... As I see it:

  • Feline need to be moved back to Cat
  • Big cat needs to be merged into Cat
  • All house cat info needs to be moved to House cat
  • {{for}} used to point to house cat.

any objections? SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 21:01, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Cat Gods/Loa's[]

Should the feline loa's/demi-gods such as Halazzi,Har'koa or Pogeyan be listed here as well? --1201 (talk) 01:50, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

I want to say no. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:34, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
