Thus my hemming and hawing. However, "Cogwheel gem" is the category used by wowhead, however unfortunate the name. I suspect that until we get a larger number of "non-gem socketable items", "cogwheel gem" is likely to suffice. Feel free to suggest a name that would encompass both item types.
