Deathknell[]

Ya know... No one's ever questioned this, to my knowledge, but...what did Deathknell used to be? Was it an actual town before the Plague of Undeath swept across Lordaeron? If so, was it actually called "Deathknell"? If not, where did it come from? Did the Forsaken build it after establishing themselves in the Ruins of Lordaeron? I mean, "Brill" if a fairly decent town name for a human town...but Deathknell? Crypt or not, that's a bit much... ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 09:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

I think it was a human town- look at the architecture. Anyway, i remember there was a custom map in WC3 called Deathknell. Also, a random name for a lich in WC3 was Kali'naj Dethknell, even though that's spelled without an a.VariDaDreadlord (talk · contr) 21:22, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
I have a feeling that Deathnkell used to be Vandermar Village, which was the location of Undead mission 1 in WC3. The village showed up on all of the maps in WC3 but none in WoW. Julzwinfield (talk · contr) 20:06, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree remember in wc3 vandermar have a cathedral that could represent the church in the town of deathknell —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Menethils (talk · contr).

it can't be vandermar. maps show Vandermar Village was to the right of the capital, wheras deathknell is to the left.--A Pickering (talk) 00:29, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

in fact from the look of the old warcraft III maps Vandermar would have been close to, or at, the border of what is now the Western Plaguelands --A Pickering (talk) 00:37, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
While I agree this is most likely not Vandermar Village, the layout of places in WoW doesn't always represent the layout first set up in previous games. So it can't be completely ruled out. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:44, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

personally i thought deathknell was its original name. if you looks whats there: a blacksmiths, a church, a crypt; blacksmith makes the coffins, church holds the service and crypt for burial. House for the priest to live in and an inn for the wake after the funeral. I thought it was the Lordaeron city of the dead. Lordaeron was where royalty was buried, Deathknell was for commoners.--A Pickering (talk) 00:55, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Take Brill for instance... according to the maps of Warcraft 3, Brill would be located in either Alterac Mountains or Western Plaguelands. So for Brill to be just North of Undercity, means town locations depend on how they (Blizzard) feel. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:24, January 3, 2010 (UTC)
The locations depicted in previous maps don't matter at all. You just have to take any village and look the differences. Only a few coincide with their previous location.
I think it's Vandermar Village, too.--Lon-ami (talk) 10:28, January 3, 2010 (UTC)

Separate Zone Now?[]

Though Deathknell is (kinda-sorta) still considered part of Tirisfal Glades, it seems that it (along with all the other starting areas - Northshire Valley, Sunstrider Isle, etc.) is now technically its own zone now. Should things be changed to reflect this? --IconSmall Deathwing Joshmaul, Loremaster of Chaos (Leave a Message) 14:14, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I thought they were only adding maps for them... but yep, they even have their own general chat. So I guess they are now technically mini-zones within zones. Apart from these minor changes, they are really the same and probably should just remain as is. Within the Valley of Trials, for example, the Burning Blade Coven (while in the valley) is still flagged as part of Durotar (general chat and all). SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! I wonder if they did this, so the starting zones won't be included in the cross-realm zone sharing feature. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 00:08, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Didn't we do something similar with the Underbelly in Dalaran? In that case, just do with the start zones what we did there? --IconSmall Deathwing Joshmaul, Loremaster of Chaos (Leave a Message) 17:38, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
I don't remember what if anything special for Dalaran/Underbelly. As it is now, the Underbelly article looks more like the Valley of Trials. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:38, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Oh. Er...*thinks for a second* Hmm, that musta changed recently, it used to be the Underbelly had its own subzone template or some such...eh, I suppose we can just add the start area maps to the main regions' subzone templates (Deathknell for Tirisfal, Northshire for Elwynn, so on) like the Underbelly map is for Dalaran's. --IconSmall Deathwing Joshmaul, Loremaster of Chaos (Leave a Message) 14:46, 10 September 2012 (UTC)
