Combining Alliance and Horde[]
Keeping Alliance and Horde versions of the daily quests for Pilgrim's Bounty combined in one article is a good idea because:
- The quests are nearly identical for the two sides. Separating the pages means lots of duplicated information.
- An edit in a page for one faction must often also be done for the other faction. Keeping the two sides in one article means:
- Less work: only one page needs to be edited
- Less divergence: no risk that an editor only changes one page, and does not realize the same edit needs to be done in the other page.
- With separated pages called "Quest something (Alliance)" and "Quest something (Horde)", it will be required to make two links (one to each page) for every single location where the quest is referenced, otherwise the popup window will fail. A link to "Quest something" will point nowhere. An example of a page that will give major problems is
[Pilgrim's Progress], and its derivatives, such as World Events achievements/Pilgrim's Bounty. - Combined pages emphasize the fact that the event is essentially the same for Horde and Alliance players.
We have a unique opportunity here to unify a set of pages which are practically identical, making life a lot easier for current and future editors.
If you do decide to split the daily quest pages, then:
- Please realize that apart from the 5 quest pages (which will split in 10 pages), you will need to edit each and every page that links to it. That means every quest giver, every quest reward, every relevant achievement, etcetera, needs to be updated. Just changing a link here and there doesn't cut the mustard. Everything needs to be changed in one go. Currently the Pilgrim's Bounty articles form a consistent database. Modifying less than the full set would leave the database in an inconsistent state.
- Why stop at the five daily quests? There are other combined pages, such as the ones mentioned earlier: [Pilgrim's Progress] and World Events achievements/Pilgrim's Bounty. And what about the main page, Pilgrim's Bounty? That could be split in two pages which are largely the same, except for a few Horde and Alliance specific bits. Wouldn't that be taking things too far?
If the argument is "for every page in Wowhead/Thottbot there should be a separate page in WoWWiki", then you have your work cut out for you. See for instance The Turkey Chair for a page that currently links to a set of Wowhead pages. Each of those pages (and many related to them) does not currently have a WoWWiki equivalent. To be consistent, you'd have to create a WoWWiki page for all of them. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hops Splurt (talk · contr).
- Um... we were going to keep the daily ones together, only the chained set of quests were split up... so I'm not sure what you're getting at. As for there not being spell pages for random "devices", mobs, and npcs is cause it would be useless to have them, not to mention the amount that use the same name, but work completely different. Also... THIS talk page you're using has nothing to do with your discussion, you should have used the forums or at least the Pilgrim's Bounty talk page.
