Forumlas and Crit from Intellect[]

Spell Crit Bonus from Intellect @80[]

My tests have yielded that Spell Critical Strike Bonus in % = 2.2 + 0.006 * Intellect. I don't want to add that to the main page since I just created an account, I wanted to post it here to make sure the coefficient is correct.

Int into crit ratios[]

I'm not entirely sure the ratio of 80 int into 1% crit is still correct in relation to mages. According to my character pane, my 551 int is 7.8% crit. That ends up being 70.641 int per 1% crit. When I try different amounts of int, the ratio is ever so slightly different. It appears to slightly lower as your int goes lower. Perhaps these calculations should be rechecked. Zarathorn (talk) 23:47, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, the "class specific constants" under formula is supposed to be base crit chance. However, there is no base crit chance except for what your starting int gives you. For this reason, this could be removed since you can just use your total int to include any starting crit chance. Zarathorn (talk) 00:22, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Update Formula[]

The formula for spell crit is out of date, or at least needs to have a part about the formula for level 80. I would readjust the formula with the new numbers for the components (i.e. intellect/166.66 and crit rating/45.91), however I do not know if the class coefficient has changed with the expansion pack, and I am no math whiz - I'm incapable of figuring it out! Does anyone know the new formula? **edit** Actually, I think the class coefficient is still correct - at least for priests.

  • From my testing on my mage, the class constant @80 is still the same as before (0.91). Can anyone confirm with other classes? (From the above comment, I gather priests also use the same constant... and if that's the case it's safe to assume all classes still use the same constants, but I'm going to hold off on making any final edits for now).

By my math the formula is as follows:

Crit Chance% = ((Intellect / 166.6667) + ClassConstant) + (Crit Rating / 45.91)

Note: If you look at your character pain, and mouse over the Intellect, it says: "Increases Spell Criticial Hit by x.xx%". The class constant factors there. --Maverick (talk) 02:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

  • I've crunched some numbers with level 80 characters from all classes and have confirmed the above formula is correct as of the current release (3.0.9(9551)) --Maverick (talk) 04:44, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

Crit Formula[]

According to the formula for level 80, With 1000 int and a rank 7 firestone with master conjurer (49 spell crit rating base times 300% for 147) you would have roughly 10.90% crit with no other crit rating... Correct? --07:57, 31 March 2009 (UTC)Thanatos

Mob's chance to crit[]

Should there be mention on this page regarding a mob's chance to critically strike a player with a spell? It appears largely avoided, but not mentioned anywhere. I have heard that mob spells cannot crit. Yuriken 21:45, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Mobs indeed cannot crit with spells. There may be some specific mob spell somewhere that can crit, but the general rule is that spells used by mobs can never crit. - Alltat (talk) 09:35, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Is there a cap?[]

Is there a cap (literal or effective) for +crit? Thanks. WhiteBoy 21:10, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

hit affects crit[]

The chapter "Spell Hit Affect on Actual Spell Crit Rate" is a bit confusing to me. As I see it, the chapter points out the obvious effect that you can only crit if you hit (Your crit % is the percetange of _hits_, not % of attacks). If I got this correctly, I think the chapter could be changed to say this in big, simple words :) Deice 07:21, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

How does a mob's lvl effect crit chance?[]

it goes into detail on the spell crit formula, but how does the mobs lvl effect your chance to crit? i know it has to some what because of how much more you crit on grey mobs.

It has been shown that lower level mobs do inflate your crit chance with spells ( [1] ), however exactly how it does this is unclear. Circumstantial evidence on EJ (not sure on the link) has shown that it deflates vs higher level targets, but again the exact formulas are unknown. Zaldinar (talk) 23:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Also, the section about mage talents is absolutely incorrect, spellpower crits are 175% not 200%, ice shards are 200%, but even with them hit and crit are not worth comparing, hit is by far superior item point for item point and percent for percent. Assuming nobody argues with this on the discussion page, I'll be fixing this information in a few days when I get the time to write it up. Zaldinar (talk) 23:27, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

How are spellpower crits 175%? Normal crit damage is 150%, plus 50% from the two point talent= 200%. Ice shards when maxed out is 100% extra, meaning 250% total crit damage. Zarathorn (talk) 23:44, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
[2] , its an increase to the bonus. That is, normal crits are 150%, the 50% is the bonus, so adding 50% to the bonus, is .5 * 1.5 = 1.75. Zaldinar (talk) 06:34, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

First off, the page on this website entitled Ice Shards claims that 5/5 Ice Shards does stack with 2/2 Spell Power, yielding a 125% crit damage increase for frost based spells. Now, there are definitely contradictions within this website over spell crit and spell hit - here you'll read that there is one roll for them both as the conclusions on this page imply and there you'll read that two rolls take place one for hit and one for crit, making spell crit much less valuable % for % compared to spell hit. If you stack Ice Shards and Spell Power then spell hit is still more valuable than spell crit item point for item point.

Potion Criticals[]

Okay... just had a super healing potion crit heal for 3.6k on my mage... in 3 years of playing warriors I don't ever recall a potion crit, and my paladin father's response was 'potions can't crit!' which is what I thought until now too... so the question is, is it possibly because she's got a way lot higher spell crit rating than the warriors I've traditionally played do? Graptor 14:14, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Potions have always been able to crit, you just don't notice it when it happens most of the time, since the times when you use potions are generally the times when you're busy not getting killed. - Alltat (talk) 09:35, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
