“All those who followed Mekkatorque must pay! With my army of troggs, I will decimate all of gnomanity.”
- — Telzo Sparkspanner[1]
Telzo Sparkspanner is a leper gnome, the former second-in-command of Sicco Thermaplugg,[1] and the antagonist of the Heritage of Gnomeregan questline.
Biography[]
Before the fall of Gnomeregan, Telzo was one of the assistants of Sicco Thermaplugg.[2] He helped Thermaplugg engineer the plan that led to the fall of Gnomeregan and the genocide of the gnome race, his motivation being that he wanted to get "recognition". Instead, however, High Tinker Mekkatorque—as Telzo saw it—swept in and reaped the rewards of all of his and Sicco's work.[1]
No one heard from Sparkspanner for many years after the Gnomeregan incident.[2] During the Fourth War, he suddenly returned to enact his revenge on Mekkatorque's followers and decimate gnomanity using an army of Ironbound troggs.[1] In addition, he took control of the Forge of Wills and Ulduar's exterior defenses.[3][4] Sparkspanner sent a number of Ironbound led by Krugg the Smart to attack the Fizzcrank Airstrip in the Borean Tundra. The Gnomish Elite Aerial Rangers subsequently arrived to help defend the airstrip, with G.E.A.R.'s Commander killing Krugg and retrieving his communication device,[5] which sparked a hologram revealing that Sparkspanner was the one in control of the troggs[2] and allowed the rangers to track the signal to the Storm Peaks. While the rangers were flying to the mountains, Sparkspanner contacted the squadron to taunt them.[1] G.E.A.R. later confirmed that Sparkspanner was in the Halls of Stone and used one of their prototype bomber planes to clear out his army outside the walls of Ulduar[3] before heading into the halls to find Telzo waiting at the Forge of Wills, piloting a clockwork giant called the Smasher X900. The rangers managed to defeat the clockwork giant, and although Telzo ejected from the mech, its torso subsequently fell on top of him, crushing him.[4] Gnomanity and Azeroth were thereby saved from a threat they didn't even know about, and Herk Winklespring hoped that this would be the last time the gnomes would ever hear from any of Thermaplugg's old minions.[6]
