The Cudgel of Kar'desh is obtained inside the heroic version of the Slave Pens in Coilfang Reservoir. Completing it requires the defeat of both Nightbane, inside Karazhan, and Gruul the Dragonkiller.
The quest was originally required to gain attunement to Serpentshrine Cavern.

Bring me the elemental signets that the cudgel requires!
The Earthen Signet is held by Gruul the Dragonkiller. Gruul can be found inside his lair in the Blade's Edge Mountains.
The Blazing Signet is the blazing heart of a creature known as Nightbane. This mythical beast is said to reside in the hallowed halls of the prophet, Medivh.

- After Patch 2.3.0, completing both this quest and [30R] Trial of the Naaru: Magtheridon at granted a character the [Champion of the Naaru] title. Patch 3.0.2, however, removed the ability to gain the title, unless a player had the quests still in their log before the patch was released.
Patch changes[]
- Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Original quest removed, replaced with an identical quest, but different quest ID. New quest will not reward the Champion of the Naaru title.
- Patch 2.3.0 (2007-11-13): No longer required to enter Serpentshrine Caverns.
