The Eagle's Essence is part of the Druid's Swift Flight Form quest chain.
Objectives[]
Defeat the Guardian of the Eagle and obtain the Essence of the Eagle. Use Arthorn's Sparrowhawk Whistle to call Arthorn's Sparrowhawk to relay news of your success.
If you lose Arthorn's Sparrowhawk Whistle, return to Arthorn Windsong at the Evergrove for a replacement.
Description[]
The Book of the Raven tells us the raven's followers captured and bound the spirits of his rivals within stone shrines. A guardian was set to watch over each, lest the raven's enemies attempt to free them.
The first of the shrines is the eagle's, found in the hills to the south of Lake Jorune and west of Stonebreaker Hold in Terokkar Forest.
The tablet says that the eagle fought valiantly, but was overcome by a swarm of enemies. The armor and endurance of your bear form is well-suited to this fight.
Rewards[]
You will receive:
- +150 reputation with Cenarion Expedition
Progress[]
<The sparrowhawk seems to speak with Arthorn's voice.>
Did you succeed in freeing the essence of the eagle spirit?
Completion[]
<Arthorn seems to feel the power in the recovered essence through the sparrowhawk's senses.>
Even after thousands of years of captivity, the eagle's power remains strong. If the other essences are as strong as the eagle's, the raven god will be right to fear you.
Notes[]
This fight can be tough, but can definitely be soloed. Fly to the Shrine of the Eagle in Terokkar Forest (46,45) and click on the shrine to summon its guardian. The guardian will summon a large number of Anzuli Hatchlings to protect him. However, they all despawn once the guardian is killed. If you can afford to, ignore them entirely and simply DPS the guardian down.
The easiest method (and that recommended by the quest giver) is using [Bear Form]. A Bear-form druid can use [Demoralizing Roar] to reduce the damage taken from the birds to just a few damage per hit, and can outlast him. Be sure to interrupt his Starfire, which can hit for over 4500 damage.
A Cat form feral druid can quite easily simply out-DPS him AND his birds.
In any form, preparing for the fight by casting HoTs on yourself ( [Rejuvenation], [Regrowth], [Lifebloom]) will help extend your survivability. Add [Barkskin] if you intend to out-cast him. [Mark of the Wild] and [Thorns] don't hurt either.
How to solo as resto druid: Before the fight starts stack a max rank regrowth and a rejuv. If you get low just barkskin and immediately toss a rejuv and lifebloom, with barkskin + demo shout, the birds will be hitting you for very little even in caster form. If you get extremely low you can also [Nature's Swiftness]+ [Healing Touch] and immediately switch back to bear form (2.3 makes this much easier)
Caution: this location is only accessible by air. Dying at this location will result in your being unable to get back to your body on your own. Bring a friend, or be prepared to 'Spirit Rez' and eat the extra durability loss.
