The Lanticore is a hydra-like creature that very rarely spawns in the Rookery in Upper Blackrock Spire. No one knows what deep part of Blackwing Descent the Lanticore was kept in, but it probably smelled pretty awful.[1]
"Lanticore" is likely derived from "manticore", a legendary creature from Persian mythology. The manticore traditionally had a lion's body, a spiked or scorpion-like tail, a human face and rows of sharp teeth. It also sometimes had wings. The creature most closely resembling the manticore in Warcraft is the wyvern.
