The Wardens are night elven wardens loyal to Maiev Shadowsong operating in the Broken Isles. They have worked from their base of operations, the Isle of the Watchers in Azsuna, to hunt down and neutralize major threats to Azeroth's inhabitants, through imprisonment or summary execution. Captured foes were interned in the Vault of the Wardens.
They reward the heroes who help them deal with dangerous threats on the Broken Isles. The faction is known to possess Warden Towers across the Broken Isles, although in recent times they have been forced to abandon many of them. There are two in most Legion zones that serve as PvP targets.
History[]
At the outset of the third invasion of Azeroth by the Burning Legion, the demons targeted the Vault and, with the aid of the traitor warden Cordana Felsong, they succeeded in overrunning the prison complex and retrieving the corpse of Illidan Stormrage. Maiev Shadowsong was captured during the conflict and taken to Black Rook Hold. The Wardens worked with the Illidari to fight back the invading demons.[2]
In Shadowsong's absence, Sira Moonwarden took up the mantle of leadership.[1] The Wardens continued their duties of upholding justice and safeguarding the world's inhabitants, directing order leaders to eliminate various threats on the Broken Isles.
It is implied that the vast majority of the Wardens' ranks have been decimated by recent events,[4] making it necessary for them to train new recruits, and to directly ask adventurers to hunt down prisoners who have escaped from the Vault of the Wardens.[5]
Following the creation of the Armies of Legionfall, members of the Wardens, including the now freed Maiev and several Warden Vigilants, participated in the Assault on Broken Shore.
