Thunder Axe Fortress is a stronghold occupied by the Burning Blade cult. The fortress is located in northwestern Desolace and is now led by Kohor. While they have lost the Hand of Iruxos years ago, they found a way to summon a very powerful demon named Nazargen. If summoned too soon though, he would be weak enough to be dealt with.
The fortress is made up of a stronghold, a barracks, a cave and several watch towers.
History
They once stored a powerful artifact known as the [Hand of Iruxos] within the fortress, which was used to open demon portals at Mannoroc Coven. The fortress also once housed the [Sceptre of Light] - an immensely powerful artifact that the Burning Blade stole from the naga. Azore Aldamorthas sought to recover this artifact for the Argent Dawn and did with the aid of an adventurer. Tyranis Malem resided here, a traitor to his people, and a keen pioneer in demonic magics.
In the RPG
Thunder Axe is the most remote Burning Blade hideaway in the land. Here warlocks practice their dark magic but seems to refrain from their demon-summoning ways, at least to the casual observer. While Thrall is aware of the cult's existence, he has thus far sent only a small contingent of orcs to the area. It is also rumored that a sect from Thunder Axe is allied with the Magram centaur against the Gelkis. Its population is 1,000.[1]
Notes
- [Burning Blade Ear] drops from the cultist here.
- It is interesting to note that the red crystal (that was here prior to the Cataclysm) containing the demon holding the Demon Box (which contains the Hand of Iruxos) may hypothetically be identical in its composition to bloodstone - material frequently used in summoning demons.
Patch changes
- Patch 1.4.0 (2005-04-19): Fires in Thunder Axe Fortress in Desolace now have proper names.
