Thunderfall

Thunderfall.

Thunderfall is located just to the north of Frostfield Lake in the eastern reaches of Storm Peaks. It is a sobering sight, a massive, silent grave with its wandering ghosts.[1]

Ages ago, after being corrupted by Yogg-Saron, the Keeper Loken killed his brother's wife Sif, and tricked Thorim into believing that King Arngrim and the frost giants were responsible. In a fit of rage, Thorim threw his hammer, Krolmir, at Arngrim, who was in the middle of a battle against a clan of frost dwarves. The explosion of Krolmir striking the ground killed all those nearby and froze the entire tableau for all time, catching the moment the shockwave threw many of the dwarves into the air.[1] In his last act, Arngrim cast a rune on Krolmir, preventing anyone from claiming it.[2]

Centuries later, at the time of the war against the Lich King, Thorim discovered the truth with the aid of adventurers serving the Sons of Hodir. Roused from his stupor, he vowed to take the fight against Loken, and enlisted the adventurers to help him to make up for his past sins and to regain the trust of the frost giants.[3] With the help of the adventurers, King Jokkum summoned Thorim at Thunderfall, where the Keeper apologized for all he did, and after Jokkum agreed to forgive him, Thorim claimed once again his hammer.[2]

Following the war against the Jailer, the brothers Bronzebeard visited the area, and Muradin Bronzebeard considered it to be proof of the fallibility of the keepers and those who created them.[1]

Notes[]

  • While one might assume that the combatants are in suspended animation, the questline and the presence of their wandering spirits clearly reveals that they are in fact dead.
