Tian Monastery is a large monastery and village situated on a rise in north-central Jade Forest. From here, the pandaren can see the Terrace of Ten Thunders to its north, the Woods of the Lost to its northeast, Emperor's Omen to its east, and the Greenstone Quarry and the Greenstone Mason's Quarter to its southeast.
This monastery does not turn anyone away from training, as such, people come from all over Pandaria seeking to train here, no matter their race.[1] The monks here specialize in teaching young pandaren how to fight to prevent ever becoming slaves to the mogu again. Many great fighters trained at this temple such as Yu Ming the Blade, Liang the Unbreakable, and even the great Emperor Shaohao.[2]
After Shaohao shrouded Pandaria in mists, he left his staff behind. It was found by the monks of the Monastery who put it into the Terrace of the Endless Spring.[3]
The monks here are considered the wardens of the forest with one of their duties as maintaining balance within it.[4] The Tian way is to achieve clarity through combat, enlightenment through engagement, and peace through punching.[5]
During the events of the Invasion of Pandaria, adventurers of the Horde and Alliance briefly trained here. During that year, the Tian Monastery was training a lot of monks, and they put a huge commission for staves to the trainers in the Arboretum.[6] Eventually, a group of students (consisting of Xiao, Clever Ashyo, Kang Bramblestaff, Ken-Ken and Lin Tenderpaw) graduated and were given a training mission in the Valley of the Four Winds to find the Hidden Master.
By the time of the Burning Legion's third invasion of Azeroth, the monastery's pupils included races from the Alliance and Horde.
During the Legion invasion, The Monkey King spent some time here.[7] When Tian Monastery lost contact with the Order of the Broken Temple, Chen Stormstout was sent to investigate and discovered they had come under attack by the Legion,[8] coming from small portals. Its defense was led by Taran Zhu,[9] aided by the Broken Temple's Grandmaster, while the Monkey King and other students kept fighting. The counterattack consisted of destroying Fel Spreaders,[10] Fel Spikes, Tainted Ale barrels, putting out fel fires,[11] and killing the invading demons,[12] as well as the assault's commander, Skola Greatsword, but not before Skola's master, Lady Keletress abducted several monks.[13]
