Tikbalangs are creatures only mentioned by Griftah in the form of his [Infallible Tikbalang Ward], a "trusty warding talisman" which seemingly prevents one from being found by a tikbalang and stolen away to the treetops.
Griftah and Peacekeeper Jadaar have the following conversation about these creatures:
- Griftah says: Hey! Hey, <race>! I be havin' just the thing for ya. Ya ever see a tikbalang? Frightenin' creatures. Prone to stealin' ya away. What ya need is one of my tikbalang wards. Guaranteed to ward all tikbalangs!
- Peacekeeper Jadaar says: I've never heard of a tikbalang in my life. In fact, the Scryers tell me they can't find a single mention in one of their libraries.
- Griftah says: Look, man, they didn't live to be writin' about it, okay?
Trivia[]
The tikbalang is a malevolent creature in Philippine folklore. From the Wikipedia article on Tikbalang:
- [The Tikbalang] is a folkloric monster said to lurk in the mountains and forests of the Philippines. It is generally described as a tall, bony humanoid creature with disproportionately long limbs, to the point that its knees reach above its head when it squats down. It has the head and sometimes feet of an animal, most commonly a horse. It is sometimes believed to be a transformation of an aborted fetus which has been sent to earth from limbo.
