Titan Rune Dungeons (often referred to as Heroic+) is an optional game mode that can be activated with the Mysterious Device in heroic dungeons that were introduced with Wrath of the Lich King. Upon activating the device, enemies throughout the dungeon will have increased the health and damage as well as a new thematic gameplay effect based on the theme of the dungeon.
This game mode is similar to Mythic+ from retail.
Defense Protocol Alpha[]
Items that dropped from the 10-player raids such as Naxxramas, Eye of Eternity, and Obsidian Sanctum are now available in each bosses loot table during the Defense Protocol Alpha. To accommodate this change, the raids had their 25-player-specific items be available in their 10-player counterpart. Each time a boss is killed in a Titan Rune Dungeon, they will drop a 10-player item in addition to other loot drops.
Depending on the theme of the dungeon, activating the device will provide a buff for every enemy in the dungeon:
- [Alpha Empowered: Titan Rune] (Halls of Stone, Halls of Lightning)
- [Alpha Empowered: Blood Rune] (Gundrak, Drak'Tharon Keep)
- [Alpha Empowered: Arcane Rune] (The Oculus, The Nexus, Violet Hold)
- [Alpha Empowered: Plague Rune] (The Culling of Stratholme)
- [Alpha Empowered: Frost Rune] (Utgarde Keep, Utgarde Pinnacle)
- [Alpha Empowered: Shadow Rune] (Azjol-Nerub, Ahn'Kahet)
There are achievements available for completing each dungeon with this mode enabled, including a meta-achievement: [Defense Protocol Alpha: Terminated].

Defense Protocol Beta[]
Items that dropped from 10-player Ulduar will be available as loot in dungeons with Defense Protocol Beta enabled. Additionally, the final boss will drop a [Sidereal Essence] currency which can be exchanged for 10-player Hard Mode Ulduar gear at the Animated Constellation vendor in Dalaran. It also adds a new dungeon to the pool, Trial of the Champion.
