Travard is a human paladin and the leader of the Tyr's Guard since the Third War. During the third invasion of the Burning Legion, he came to Dalaran and requested the aid of the reformed Knights of the Silver Hand to ensure the protection of the Inv mace 2h artifactsilverhand d 01 [The Silver Hand], the legendary weapon of the Keeper Tyr sealed in his tomb. However, although they managed to secure the artifact, all members of the Tyrs Guard were killed by abominations of the Void during the battle, leaving only Travard as the last member of the organization.

Later, the old paladin discovered that Tyr's tomb had not been completely collapsed, and decided to watch over it alone for several years. When a hero alongside Watcher Koranos ventured in the tomb to find the memories of Tyr, Travard had been kicked out some time ago by the security systems and decided to help them in their quest. When the tomb definitely collapsed, he followed them to Tyrhold on the Dragon Isles, where he devoted himself to the cause of the Dragon Aspects to revive Tyr. Using Tyrhold as their new base of operations, Travard and Koranos recruited new members across the Dragon Isles to restore the Tyr's Guard, and together, they began their quest to retrieve the disk containing the keeper's memories.

History[]

Following the Third War, and the decimation of the Tyr's Guard by the Scourge, only a few brave members led by Travard remained to uphold their ancient vows.[3]

Legion[]

Decades later, at the time of the third invasion of the Burning Legion, Travard and Efrina went to Dalaran to seek help, but with the ongoing invasion, no one wanted to come to their aid, and the old paladin hoped that the remnants of their order would be enough to carry out their duty. Following the Battle for Broken Shore, a champion of the Light was sent by Lord Maxwell Tyrosus to find Travard in the city, and to bring him at Krasus' Landing to help his organization.[4] At some point, Travard and his order came to meet the Argent Crusade and claimed to know the location of the Tomb of Tyr. The old paladin explained that they are the protectors of Inv mace 2h artifactsilverhand d 01 [The Silver Hand], and that recent intrusions have revealed the secret position of the tomb, endangering the ancient weapon.[5]

While he prepared a strike force for the tomb, Travard sent the hero paladin to Dragonblight in order to find his brother Galford, as the latter journeyed to Northrend to find the Spark of Tyr, a mysterious artifact that would allow them to pass the wards protecting the warhammer. However, the latter died during his quest at the hand of the mad titanic watcher Jotun, and Travard learned with sadness of his brother's death when the champion returned with the Spark of Tyr.[2]

As too many knew about the location of the tomb, Travard stated that it was necessary to close it forever, but only after they recovered the hammer. With the help of Tyrosus, the old paladin gathered the members of the Tyr's Guard and departed with troops of the Argent Crusade to the Whispering Forest. When the hero paladin arrived at Tyr's Fall, Travard and his paladins had just finished eliminating the cultists of the Twilight's Hammer at their camp, although there had been casualties during the battle. When they entered the tomb, they discovered abominations of the void and had to eliminate them before Travard could begin the ritual to claim the hammer. However, the ritual could not be performed as one of the Sparks of Tyr was stolen and taken into the depths of the tomb. During their descent towards the Grave-Prison of Zakajz, the Tyr's Guard eliminated many void creatures, until they encountered the Horrific Aberration who killed Efrina and her brother Duvall. After they slew the monster, Travard resumed the ritual while his allies protected him from Mordoth the Hunter, and once the hero paladin was in possession of The Silver Hand, everyone fled from the tomb which began to crumble.

As the only remaining member of the Tyr's Guard, Travard explained that Tyr's body and its secrets, as well as the prison of Zakajz the Corruptor, were now buried and protected under tons of stones and water. He then announced that the champion of the Light was in his opinion the most worthy person to carry and protect the legendary artifact, and that they would soon meet again.[6]

Following the restoration of the Order of the Silver Hand, with his assistance, the Head archivist Sister Elda recorded the writings of the Tyr's Guard in the Libram of Ancient Kings.

Breaching the Tomb

Travard and the Broken Titan Orb.

A few years later, the Tomb of Tyr was revealed to have not fully collapsed. A hero alongside Watcher Koranos ventured to the tomb to find memories of Tyr, where they found Travard frustratedly locked out. After questioning him, he explained that after his order was decimated and the artifacts within the tomb secured; Travard found the tomb had not fully collapsed. He endeavored instead to remain, standing vigil over it as the last remaining Tyr's Guard, until the defenses locked him out. If the hero is the Highlord of the Silver Hand, he greeted them amicably and asked them to keep close Inv mace 2h artifactsilverhand d 01 [The Silver Hand], as it may yield power once again.[7]

Travard aided the hero and Koranos with activating the various mechanisms in the tomb, hoping that they contained enough memories to activate the Inv misc monsterscales 17 [Silver Scale] in order to revive Tyr's new body. Travard defended the group in the main chamber before leading them to the Darkwalk; where he guided them to a second console after the first short-circuit. The hero activated the console with the Silver Scale, showing the three of them Tyr's last stand against Zakajz the Corruptor. Travard commented on various elements of the battle, such as Ironaya and Archaedas' exile to the south at Uldaman; speaking on the matter with Koranos. He also made a short commentary when Tyr faced an image of Mordoth the Hunter; realizing now that the creature that eliminated his brethren was hunting for Tyr.

After witnessing Tyr's sacrifice, Travard told Koranos and the hero that his faith had been renewed and returned to Thaldraszus with them, while the Tomb of Tyr collapsed once more, this time definitively. In Tyrhold, he was present when the Silver Scale was presented before Tyr. He then stated his new mission, as the last of the Tyr's Guard, was to aid the Dragon Aspects in restoring the legendary keeper. He stated he would gather elements of the Knights of the Silver Hand to aid in guarding over Tyr and helping to restore him. He also claimed that, if Tyr was awakened, he would aid him in his mission.[8]

Travard in Brackenhide Hollow

Travard in Brackenhide Hollow.

As he had faith Tyr would need him again soon, Travard made the hard decision to leave the past behind and reforge Tyr's Guard. If Tyr was to walk the world again, the Tyr's Guard would be his vanguard and his servants, following his values and carrying his will.[9] He and Watcher Koranos later met a representative of the Knights of the Silver Hand to find worthy recruits. However, while the Silver Hand envoy gave them the names of a few of their paladins, none of them were what they were looking for. As a result, they ended up seeking out four paladins he felt fit the virtues he was after. These came in the form of the Zandalari prelate Nolaki, the blood elf Talthis, the Kul Tiran Hadwin, and the Lightforged draenei Valunei. From their camp near Brackenhide Hollow, which served as their training grounds, Travard began their rigorous formation and taught them the story of the legendary keeper.

Travard Dragonflight

In order to triangulate the location of Tyr's disc, Chronormu asked Travard and the Tyr's Guard to help the adventurer deliver three beacons to three different places in the timeways.[10] Before they began their quest, Travard announced that his recruits were now ready for their last assignments to become full-fledged members of the Tyr's Guard.[11] After each new recruit received their equipment, all of them were sent to fight against the decay gnolls and their corruption around Brackenhide Hollow with the help of the adventurer.[12][13][14][15] Once they all successfully complete their trials, Travard organized the Tyr's Guard initiation ceremony on the steps of Tyrhold. Bathed in the Light, their tabards changed to a brilliant gold and white, signifying the Guard's reformation.[16]

When Chromie and Eternus announced that they had determined where the paladins needed to place the beacons,[17] three groups were sent to place them in the timelines. On their side, Travard and the adventurer traveled at the Temple of Order during the Winterskorn War, where they fought the minions of Loken.[18] While they were successful, Talthis and Valunei did not return from their mission in Ny'alotha at the time of the Black Empire. Consequently, Travard led the Tyr's Guard to help them, and discovered that Valunei had fallen prey to a n'raqi who took the appearance of her former master, Iriska. Once the abomination was killed, the paladins guarded the last beacon until the signal was operational.[19]

Although they were successful, Travard was worried for his recruits after such an experience, and for himself because of the weight of his responsibilities. The old paladin asked the adventurer to speak with each member of them to ensure that they were doing well. Once assured everyone was ready to continue their duty, Eternus announced that Tyr's disc was in the Nighthold, and Nozdormu confirmed that Grand Magistrix Elisande was in its possession. However, Travard ordered his subordinates to rest, and announced that he and Koranos set up their headquarters in Tyrhold, where they would continue to train and prepare for their future incursion into Suramar City.[20]

First meeting
You... you walk in the path of the Light.
What guides you here this day?
Second meeting
I am Tyr's Guard. We are a secret order of paladins that have been guarding a great secret for a very long time. Unfortunately current events have caused us to end our secrecy.
Gossip A secret order?
For centuries our order has guarded and kept hidden a sacred site, the Tomb of Tyr.
Tyr, a titan keeper, performed many valiant acts for the good of Azeroth until he was brought low by treachery and the power of the Old Gods. The treacherous Loken sent powerful C'Thraxxi to slay Tyr. He fought them off, killing one and forcing the other to flee, but it cost him his life.
Some of the vrykul that accompanied Tyr were so moved by his sacrifice they remained behind to guard his tomb. These vrykul were eventually replaced by humans, us. We have kept the world from discovering its location for a very long time... until recently.

Vestibule of the Silver Hand, Tomb of Tyr
It has been a long time since another person has visited Tyr's tomb.
My vigil is to guard the both Tyr's tomb and the site of Tyr's Guard's final battle.
Gossip What happened to Tyr's Guard?
I am the last of Tyr's Guard. My comrades fell defending me from Mordoth the Hunter during our mission to find Tyr's Silver Hand...
When I learned the tomb had not collapsed completely, the least I could do was stand vigil here.
The paladins of the Silver Hand still remain, but after I am gone, Tyr's Guard will be no more.
Gossip I understand.
Gossip What are you doing here?
This is where my charges in Tyr's Guard met their end. I stand vigil over their final resting place and that of Tyr's.
Even though the tomb has been seized by machines of titan make, I will not leave here unless the tomb is destroyed... or I have reason to take up another cause.
Gossip I understand.
The Darkwalk
The monster that attacked Tyr's Guard may still be lurking. We must stay vigilant for as long as we remain here.
Tyrhold, Thaldraszus
To have seen Tyr's memories... to see him now standing before me...
I have a new purpose now.
Gossip What do you mean?
As the last member of Tyr's Guard, my purpose is now to assist the Aspects in resurrecting Tyr.
I will first go and regroup with the Silver Hand. As followers of Tyr, they will want to help.
My new vigil, if the Aspects will allow it, will be to guard Tyr's new form and be ready to assist again if they try to bring him to life again.
Gossip Good luck, Travard.
Brackenhide Hollow

Welcome, <name>. Now that you're here at the Tyr's Guard training grounds, meet my recruits: Nolaki, Hadwin, Valunei, and Talthis.

By the end of their training, they will be full members of the Tyr's Guard and ready to assist with our mission to restore Tyr.

Gossip Tell me about the Tyr's Guard.

The Tyr's Guard was--and will be--a group of paladins dedicated to the service of Tyr. It began with keeping vigil over his tomb for centuries since his death.
For several years, I have been the sole surviving member of the Tyr's Guard. But recent events have inspired me to reforge the order.
If Tyr walks this world again, we will be his vanguard and his servants, following his values and carrying out his will.
Gossip How do you feel about all of this?
My service to the Tyr's Guard gave me purpose. But losing my team--my friends...
Nothing will replace them. Or the camaraderie of my youth. Still, I now believe that the Tyr's Guard has a greater purpose. My hope is that with the right training we can fulfill Tyr's will and the Guard's destiny.
And if you and I can help it, they'll all come back from their mission.
Gossip I have another question.

Gossip How did you select these recruits?

The Silver Hand representative here gave us the names of a few paladins, but... none of them were what we were looking for.
Koranos and I then spent many days wandering the Dragon Isles, looking for signs and stories of deeds befitting the virtues of Tyr.
Nolaki, Hadwin, Valunei, and Talthis had each left a trail of good in their wake that led me to them.
And when Koranos and I caught up with them, in each case, we observed an intense commitment to the virtues that made Tyr the greatest of the Titan Keepers--justice, order, compassion, and self-sacrifice.
If you want to hear more, I'm sure they'd each love to tell their story.
Gossip I have another question.
