Umbranse the Spiritspeaker is a human male who lives out in the snowy hills of Winterspring. He can be found in a small building northeast of Everlook in a camp he shares with Chal Fairwind of the Wintersaber Trainers. Before the Cataclysm, he gave the book [Studies in Spirit Speaking] to Gregor Greystone of the Argent Dawn.^[1]

The quest chain that started with defeating the Shade of Eranikus ended abruptly with Umbranse.

He was described as a medium^[1] and can speak with the dead.^[2]

In Cataclysm[]

This section concerns content related to Cataclysm.

For years it remained unknown what Umbranse did with the Essence of Eranikus. Following the Shattering, Umbranse moved to take over Mazthoril,^[3] and it was revealed that he had been collecting magical artifacts such as dragon essences and the [Crystal of Zin-Malor] to increase his own power.^[4]

Abilities[]

Arcane Blast — Blasts the target with energy, dealing Arcane damage. Each time you cast Arcane Blast, the damage of all Arcane spells is increased by 60% and mana cost of Arcane Blast is increased by 30%. Effect stacks up to 4 times and lasts until cancelled or until any Arcane damage spell except Arcane Blast is cast.
Arcane Explosion — Sends out a blast wave of magic, inflicting Arcane damage to nearby enemies.
Arcane Missiles — Launches magical missiles at an enemy, inflicting Arcane damage.
Blink — Teleports the caster 20 yd. forward unless something is in the way. Also frees the caster from any bonds.
Slow — Increases the time between an enemy's attacks by 25%, casting time increased by 25% and slows its movement by 25% for 6 sec.
