Lady Deathwhisper video maintenance

I have mercilessly stuffed many of the videos displayed "full frame" (IE <youtube>) into a links section on the Lady Deathwhisper section. Feel free to shuffle them, if you disagree with my selections.

And while you are at it... I noted that the videos with in-video text did not display that text when viewed on the wowwiki page, but did on the youtube page. Do you experience this too? (Lost Society is a good example.) If this is a general thing, we should post warnings about it. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:48, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

The exact AP of a mob?

Hullo there, A'noob... the other day I was walking around with a paladin-tank I got and tried to place my talents in the most hefty build imaginable. Among the stuff I browsed was [Vindication] which at lvl 80 with 2/2 gives damaging attacks a chance to reduce the AP of a mob with 574. Curious on how much dmg of a mob this would reduce, I searched teh internetz and found a article on tankspot.com (some page dedicated to tanking and the like) with some tests conducted by a warrior and hunter on Maexxna. While my ability of reading graphs is of rather low quality (...), the results imply that the AP of a lvl 80 mob boss has 573 AP. This somewhat "matches" Vindication's reduction by 574, the warrior's (talented) [Demoralizing Shout's] reduction by 574 and the druid's (also talented) [Demoralizing Roar's] reduction by 575. I noticed that it apparently isn't any exact formulas for calculating the AP of a mob on the wowwiki AP-article, so I was wondering if anything I've mentioned here is worth putting onto it. You seems to be a smart guy, what do you think of all this? :D WrathOfDeathfrost (talk) 16:56, April 19, 2010 (UTC)

My head hurt.
I did not read the whole article (you can blame me), but all this is purely speculated theory crafting no?
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 20:29, April 19, 2010 (UTC)
Gyah, it's not! x(( It's careful empirical observation on official numbers! What I'm stating here is the clear relation between different AP-reductions, which (according to the tests I mentioned) reduces the AP of a lvl 80 boss to zero. As there are no clear formulas for how to calculate the AP of a mob, this could perhaps be used to create such a formula, or at least a logical assumption of it. At least read my wall of text before grilling me! \(x_x) /

I noted you changed several thumbnails on various files from [Image to [File. What is the practical difference between these, that motivates you to do this? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:31, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

Well sometimes ago (forgot when), all pictures where named Image:NAME.EXT, and then all went black and white and black again and white twice, and when I woke up they were all transformed into File:NAME.EXT
My guess is that this is a change opered by Wikia on all its wiki, and then I followed the changes, moving the one I found along my way.
Note that some admins have Bots to replace Image by File, and that File is one character smaller than Image! xD

Image of Drakuru

Please note that both wowhead and thottbot are schizophrenic about the Image of Drakuru character IDs. Torch catching guide

Two things...

  1. you might be well on your way to joining the "stop the frivolous splitting of quest pages" camp. Or at least seeing one of the reasons for it.
  2. There are factions that disagree with sub-pages on a philosophical basis. You might find it more convenient to rename Torch Catching/Guide to Catching Torches to something more like Guide to Catching Midsummer Juggling Torches.

--Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:20, June 28, 2010 (UTC)

I agree some quests, should not be split, but we argue for long on this and even admins are not all on the same side.

Not sure I completely understand your comment about this Eirik Ratcatcher, but if you check the history, I think the original article name was closer to your suggestion (and I was a bit taken aback at the name change with no reason, especially as I was about to put in some links to it, lol). Was my original name for it a violation? Keyesc (talk) 18:26, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
In fact I believed that adding it in quest articles would be more easy to find. (no violation at all)
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 18:31, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
I created the article using the section headings as described in the WoWwiki Manual of Style. You changed them in a subsequent edit with no reason listed. Please advise. Keyesc (talk) 18:43, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
Ah... The problem came that A'noob transcluded the entire article in A [60] Torch Catching and H [60] Torch Catching. The section headings do not match well with the headings on those pages. I think in this case that...
  1. The page should be reverted to the old name (or something like it)
  2. the quests should use {{main}} to point to said page, and include a one or two paragraph summary of the page.
If A'noob desires, the contents of the "section+main" can be in the current Quest:xxxx/subpage name, in a Template:something name, completely inline, or something else. But using summary/Main avoids the whole header ranking issue, as well as keeping the quest pages from gratuitously including a level of detail that verges on incompatable with the page. I can do this if you guys want, or one of you can take the lead. I'm easy. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:54, June 28, 2010 (UTC)
I am not yet familiar with {{main}}. Also, is there a guideline for when to transclude vs. just providing a link? Keyesc (talk) 03:22, June 29, 2010 (UTC)
Wikipedia's Main template describes what I believe to be the standard for the convention of {{main}}. Guideline? Rule of thumb, really: "if what you're describing can stand as a page of its own, it probably should BE a page of its own." Size is a large factor in the choice. Beyond that it is a stylistic choice that we don't have formalized to my knowledge. My initial comment seems to have mutated into a larger discussion... --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:59, June 30, 2010 (UTC)
Let's revert to "Guide to Torch blabla". But I believe a simple link offers less visibility.
Your choice Keyesc.

Your link gives the release/selling date for The Shattering, but not for Cataclysm.
You are assuming that the game will be released in August, because the book will deal about the Cataclysm, but it is not certain, Rise of the Lich King came moments after WotLK. Catalsym could be released months after The Shattering.
There is no "fact" in the date you give us (or did I miss a line in your link?)
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 14:47, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
In the article it's written: "(...) An avid player of Blizzard’s MMORPG World of Warcraft, Golden has written several novels in that world (Arthas, Lord of the Clans, Rise of the Horde) with more in the works, including The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm, due out in August 2010 (...)"
"The Shattering" is the prelude to "World of Warcraft: Cataclysm", the game. There is no book called "Cataclysm". Now we know the release/selling dates for "The Shattering" thus what's happening in August but the release of the game??? xD
--N'Nanz (talk) 15:02, July 5, 2010 (UTC)
"Cataclysm" was refering to the Game. I'll try to explain myself better.
The dates you found are the dates of the book The Shattering, they have nothing do to with the game Cataclysm and should not be mentionned in the game's article
The Shattering is a prelude to the game Cataclysm, so the prelude is to be released in August, but that does not give us a release date for the game Cataclysm.

Actually, I've read through everything, and Arugal is only mentioned once, and not in any relations to the Scythe. I think this is merely a misinterpretation made by worldofraids, and since it's not a cannon source, it should be removed. I'm usually not in doubt about your edits, as you tend to be spot-on, but in this particular case, I think you're wrong. Without a proper source attached to the statements that "Arugal messed with the Scythe", it shouldn't be there.
--Oponyxal / Arodeesa  talk  contr 17:48, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
All is not written in WoWWiki yet, and the fact that Arugal messed with the Scythe seems to be the report of many beta testers. But you can choose to be careful, go on, we can always get it back later :)
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 17:50, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Without a proper source, it can be a massive misinterpretation. I've been watching the quest lines and dialogues, and can't find it anywhere. Might come in later, though, but as of yet, I prefer to be on the safe side. Also, Velinde is supposed to have held the Scythe at the time Arugal summoned the worgen. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, though.
--Oponyxal / Arodeesa  talk  contr 17:59, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
It is still possible that people pointing out holes in lore may cause Blizzard to alter quest information (etc). I would definitely put "changes re Scythe of Elune found in the Worgen starting experience" in the category of "not confirmed". I am also hoping that we preserve any "pre-retcon" lore changes. --Eirik Ratcatcher :::(talk) 19:31, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Reverted template edits

The reason we added c-inline to templates/template heads is because the game isn't out yet and because some zones are undergoing massive changes, and not because we felt it needed distinguishing otherwise.

I'm reverting your edits. --Sky (t · c) 14:47, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

I've created Forum:Inline expansion icons on zone templates to discuss this. Kirkburn  talk  contr 15:31, July 21, 2010 (UTC)
You might do better to bring that over to Forum:Removal of T:RPG and T:Cat, a related discussion. --Sky (t · c) 15:37, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

Capitals

Sorry for making some extra work for you. The fact i don't agree with much of the naming and styling policy on the wiki -- thus i don't make any effort to follow it -- is why i don't -- and why people shouldn't want me to -- ever do major edits outside my userspace anymore. Capitals was just falling ito disarray, so something had to be done. Again, sorry. :/ -- Zeal (T/C)  12:11, July 27, 2010 (UTC)

Is it OK, i created a Flamekin article and a Terrorfiend (race) article is that OK? Hallowseve15 (talk) 13:34, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Yes it is!
Just isn't Fiend the same thing as Terrorfiend?

IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 21:38, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Exactly... if anything, the proper name of these fiends is probably terrorfiends, cause it seems a majority of them (according to wowhead) have terror in their name, be it terrorguard, fiend, or master. fiend models Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! SMW

I have a question about SMW. I wonder why Diseased Timber Wolf is not a part of it. I cannot browse from there. Hans Kamp (talk) 18:31, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

I am affraid I cannot help you on this. But I can find Diseased Timber Wolf in the google search.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 18:33, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
The SMW properties of that page are assigned by the Npcbox template, so if that happens you need to perform a null edit on the page to get the SMW properties to show up. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:39, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. I will try that latter, doing a null edit. Hans Kamp (talk) 18:48, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
That was successful. Now you can browse from there. :) Hans Kamp (talk) 18:49, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

My comment on Shadowmourne

Hey, you removed my note on the Shadowmourne page about him accidentally deleting his weapon because "my source was myself".

I was asked by my guild to make the edit because I was one of the few that already had a wowwiki account, and when you added that I needed citation, we as a guild emailed sites such as wow.com and mmochampion with screenshots and the like, trying to get them to post something we could link as a source.

The only other thing we could think of was a post on our forums talking about the incident. Apologies that I couldn't get the officer who made the deletion to make the post himself, but he's a busy guy. Was the problem with the source that he hadn't commented on the thread himself? I'm just trying to understand how I can get the post reinstated, we thought it was pretty hilarious at his expense, and we didn't think anyone else in the world had ever done this particular stupid thing, making it a pretty big deal in our eyes :) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fiamma29 (talk · contr).

Sure that is an event to note, but the lack of source makes it hard to keep. Not that I do not believe it really happen, but except your own word, there is no article on mmo or wow.com (can't believe they did not posted about this), no screen or anything else.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 10:50, August 18, 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough, thanks for the quick response. But yea, I guess with all the Cata news, a deleted SM isn't something worth posting? He got it back within two days via GM ticket though, lucky! :P Pity I can't get anyone to act as a reliable source, the officer who did it is quite stubborn and sick of us making fun, he won't post in the thread I started :( Thanks again for your help :)
