Valewalker Farodin is an ancient night elf hermit living in the wilds of Suramar. As the last of the keepers of the arcan'dor trees, he helped the nightfallen grow and sustain their arcan'dor in Shal'Aran and freed them from their addiction to the Nightwell.
Background[]
Farodin was part of an ancient order of keepers that was formed by the first of the elven magi, and a small enclave of proto-druids (they predated the first druid Malfurion, but they were not actually full druids).[1] Together, they created the arcan'dor, which brought arcane into balance using nature as a vessel. Over time, Farodin's masters faded away, and only he remains.[2]
Many years ago, exiles from Suramar City came to Falanaar. Farodin took pity on them and gifted them with an arcan'dor. For a time it sustained them and they were safe, but it did not last forever. The arcan'dor became unstable and died, and in a flash of wild magic the elves were twisted, becoming the fal'dorei. The remains of the arcan'dor are known as the Shattered Locus.[3]
Farodin then kept watch over an arcan'dor seed at Moonshade Sanctum for 10,000 years.[4] A withered who would later be known as Theryn to the Nightfallen was exposed to the seed, giving him peace.[5] After "Theryn" was discovered by the exiled Arcanist Kel'danath and became one of his test subjects, Farodin later came across the sleeping Kel'danath and woke him with his blade at his neck. Once he learned that Kel'danath was trying to cure the withered, he left him be.[6]
When First Arcanist Thalyssra sent an adventurer to investigate the seed after learning about it through Theryn's memories, the seed was stolen by fal'dorei that intended to use its power to return to the surface.[7] Farodin and the adventurer slew the fal'dorei and quickly took the seed to Shal'Aran, where it could drink of the ley line there and grow. Beneath the arcan'dor, the nightfallen would be renewed.[8] Eventually, the Shal'Aran arcan'dor began to show signs of failing in the same way as the one in Falanaar, with its arcane and nature magics unbalanced and the arcane threatening to devour it whole. In order to balance them out, Farodin requested the adventurer to obtain a [Purified Life Essence] from the Emerald Dream.[9]
