Biography[]
The War of the Shifting Sands[]
Around 975 years before the First War, Valstann fought alongside his father in the War of the Shifting Sands against the silithid and their qiraji masters. When news arrived that Southwind Village was under attack, Valstann volunteered to lead a detachment to defend the village, and Fandral reluctantly agreed. Three days later, the qiraji General Rajaxx brought an injured Valstann to the front of the qiraji lines and held him up for all to see. Realizing that Southwind had fallen and his son's detachment wiped out, Fandral and his forces could only watch in horror as Rajaxx proceeded to rip Valstann in two with his claws.[4] The ambush plan was devised by the Twin Emperors.[3]
His remains were apparently retrieved, and buried in a simple grave outside of Astranaar in Ashenvale. After his death, his widow Leyara gave birth to their daughter Istaria.[1] Many centuries later, Hamuul Runetotem, Broll Bearmantle, Naralex, and Malfurion Stormrage discovered that Fandral had become a pawn of the Emerald Nightmare's lord, Xavius, who sent a hallucination of Valstann to lead the Archdruid astray and trick him into believing that his dead son was alive again. Malfurion destroyed the shadow masquerading as Valstann, causing Fandral to become terribly traumatized. After the Nightmare's defeat, the druids brought Staghelm to the Moonglade in the hope that he would recover, though many suspected that his mind was permanently broken from losing Valstann a second time.[5]
Dragonflight[]
A projection of Valstann appears in Algeth'ar Academy in Thaldraszus as part of Professor Maxdormu's history lesson about the War of the Shifting Sands.[6]
