In an alternate timeline where Thrall died as an infant and Aedelas Blackmoore's personal army conquered the Kingdom of Lordaeron, Varian Wrynn and Arthas Menethil were too young to fight and fled to Stormwind. When Arthas was marrying Jaina Proudmoore, Varian was his best man at the wedding. The two princes were as close as brothers.
Taretha Foxton speculated that since Aedelas vanished, Arthas and Varian had spies in Lordaeron and learned about Aedelas' sudden disappearance. She thought that they were planning to strike on Lordaeron.[1]
