Warpstalker

Warp stalkers are reptilian predators native to Draenor, now Outland. They can also be found in Mac'Aree on Argus, having evolved completely independently from one another.[1]

Background

Zixor, Apex Predator

Zixor, a warp stalker in Hearthstone.

Originally called stalkers or forest stalkers,[2] these predatory animals used skin with natural camouflage ability to strike,[3] as well as to sneak in and steal the eggs of their prey.[4] They were native to many areas of Draenor, and following the planet's destruction they became corrupted by the Burning Legion into warp stalkers and gained the ability to teleport by phasing in and out of the physical and astral dimensions at will.[5] This ability disturbs magical energy flows and causes spells to fizzle out wherever the creatures blink into existence, making them an annoyance to magic-users.[6][7] There are reports that Legion officers use warp stalkers as mounts.[5] After hatching, these twisted reptiles devour the weaker members of their clutches as an act of dominance.[8]

Warp stalkers are mainly found in the Blade's Edge Mountains, Terokkar Forest, and Netherstorm in Outland, as well as in Mac'Aree on Argus. There also seems to be a breed in Vashj'ir on Azeroth, though whether these are true warp stalkers or not is unknown.

Warp stalkers that have been corrupted by the Void are known as voidstalkers.

Warp stalkers are a family of Tenacity pets and are tamable by hunters starting at level 54. Their Spell arcane arcane04 [Warp Time] ability slows time around the enemy, reducing their movement speed by 50% for 6 sec. This is a great ability in PvP, like Ability shockwave [Hamstring], even though Ability poisonsting [Crippling Poison] is more effective.

There are six different skins available for warp stalker pets. They are all quite distinctive, with dark bodies and vivid stripes, such as Mob Chasm Stalker. Void elf hunters start with a voidstalker pet. Warp stalkers were once popular as pets during The Burning Crusade, due to their dragon-like appearance and useful species skill, but their numbers have declined as the focus has shifted away from their native lands in Outland.

Patch changes

Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Bonuses equalized.

  • Damage had no bonus and now has +5% bonus.
Health had a 10% bonus and now has a +5% bonus.

Wrath-Logo-Small Patch 3.0.2 (2008-10-14): Pet bonus changes.

  • Health had no bonus and now has a +10% bonus.
Damage had a -6% penalty and now has no penalty.

Notes

  • There exist assets for a ridable Black Warp Stalker mount, but it was never added to the game. No one, Legion officer or otherwise, uses them as mounts.
  • When lizard critters were added throughout Azeroth during World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, they used the only currently available small lizard-like model, the warp stalker. These lizard critters have no relation to actual warp stalkers.
