The Weeping Quarry[41, 34] is a saronite mine used by the Scourge, south of the Shadow Vault in northwestern Icecrown.
During the war against the Lich King, the adventurer was sent here by the death knight of the Ebon Blade Keritose Bloodblade to shut down and investigate the mining activity, in order to find out where all the saronite was going to and put an end to this. They first took control of an Eidolon Watcher by using the Eye of Dominion and weaken the defenses for the upcoming assault by banishing the scourge crystals,[1] distracting the plaguehounds,[2] and assassinating the ghoul lookouts.[3] Afterwards, they were sent to bombard the Scourge and steal their documents.[4][5] Once everything was done, Keritose found out that the saronite was being sent to Malykriss: The Vile Hold, and consequently sent the adventurer there.[6]
The bottom half of the open-pit mine is flooded with water. At the bottom lurks the Presence of the Old God, a living maw possibly belonging to Yogg-Saron. According to Muradin Bronzebeard, one of the members of the Explorers' League told him about the maw, but he didn't dare to check if it was still there during their exploration of Northrend, following the war against the Jailer.[7]
