The naga sorceress Zar'jira, known to the Darkspear tribe as the Sea Witch, was a supposed goddess that the Underworld Minions, including a band of murlocs, worshiped on the Darkspear islands in the Maelstrom until Thrall destroyed their cavern of worship. The murlocs' leader, the murloc sorcerer, referred to her as "the exalted one".[2][3]
Background[]
Third War[]
- For unit statistics and spell information, see Sea Witch (Warcraft III).
The Sea Witch demanded regular sacrifices from her murloc worshipers, which led them to capture visitors to their island chain. Thrall, his soldiers, the Darkspears, and Kul Tiras Marines were captured by her followers to be sacrificed.[4] The Horde and Darkspears managed to escape due to Thrall's efforts, though they lost Sen'jin. The Kul Tiras soldiers weren't so lucky.[5] Afterwards, Thrall managed to hold back her followers and escape on the boats. Afterwards, the volcano on the island began to erupt — which started the sinking of the island. Thrall's forces and the remaining Darkspears quickly repaired their ships as they held the line against attacks. They successfully escaped, and as they left, the Sea Witch taunted Thrall that the "Dark Tide" would soon claim him.[6]
Cataclysm[]
After the Cataclysm, Zar'jira travels to the Echo Isles, leading her Spitescale naga to finish what she started, the extermination of the Darkspear tribe. The fight to vanquish her involves Vol'jin, Vanira, Zuni and multiple "phases". Zar'jira's death comes at great cost: Zuni is killed and his soul is torn by Zar'jira's power. The immense power released by the Sea Witch's death was utilized by Vol'jin to contact Thrall.[7]
Abilities[]
- Freezing Burst — Knocks nearby targets back and has a chance of freezing each of them in a block of ice afterwards.
- Freezing Touch — Stuns the target, preventing all action but making it invulnerable.
- Frost Surge — Wave of Frost damages nearby enemies.
- Frostbolt — Inflicts Frost damage to an enemy and reduces its movement speed for 4 sec.
Objective of[]
- [1-10] An Ancient Enemy
In the RPG[]
Zar'jira was a powerful naga spellcaster who had used magic to gain the murloc followers.[8]
Memorable quotes[]
- Echo Isles
- Ah, another Darkspear Warrior sacrificed on my altar. One by one, you shall all perish.
- I have returned to finish what I started, Darkspear. These islands shall run with your blood.
- The tides shall wash away the entire Darkspear Tribe.
- Thrall is not here to save you this time, Darkspear. Slink away to the shadows, for I shall hunt every last one of you down.
- Troll weaklings, there is no hope. Your death has been fortold by the tides.
- When I am finished with your tribe, I shall hunt down that orcish cur that saved you from my wrath once before. None will survive.
- You were fools to leave the safety of your city. Your return to the ocean has assured your demise.
- Your father was a weakling, Vol'jin. I shall enjoy sucking the life from you as I did him.

The Sea Witch uses a banshee model in Warcraft III. Alliance & Horde Compendium stated that Zar'jira was indeed a naga sea witch. In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Zar'jira was revealed to be a naga. In Reforged, her model is that of a naga sea witch as well. As she is translucent in WoW, however, she may also be a banshee or a ghost.
It seems the Manifestations of the Sea Witch that Zar'jira summoned may be the creature with the banshee model encountered in Warcraft III, if it wasn't Zar'jira herself.
