Zulathra was a great high priest of the Zandalar tribe. He was responsible for the alliance between the Zandalari trolls and the mogu empire, but died during Lei Shen's attempted conquest of Uldum.
Biography[]
Zulathra was one of the Zandalar tribe's leaders when Lei Shen rose to power, and he saw in the mogu a golden opportunity. The high priest and a retinue of trolls traveled to the Thunder King's domain with a simple offer: that the Zandalari and the mogu empire would ally with one another, teach each other their secrets and together conquer Azeroth. The offer intrigued Lei Shen, but in truth, both him and Zulathra plotted to betray the other, as the troll planned to steal Lei Shen's godlike powers the moment he had learned the mogu's secrets. Nevertheless, the mogu and the trolls found each other to be invaluable allies, and their pact endured for many years.[1]
When Lei Shen announced his intent to conquer Uldum and the titan-forged device known as the Forge of Origination, he invited Zulathra to join him. Lei Shen had artificially extended the elderly troll's life, but once the Forge was under mogu control, they would unlock the secret to eternal life. Almost all of the highest-ranking Zandalari accompanied Zulathra and Lei Shen, expecting to also be granted immortality. However, Zulathra and his honor guard died along with the Thunder King's armies when Uldum's tol'vir guardians activated the Forge, instantly killing all life in the region.[2] The dead Zandalari who had followed Zulathra were buried at Kings' Rest in the Halls of Ash.[3]
Mengazi, who led the Zandalari forces during the Zandalari Troll Wars, was a descendant of Zulathra.[4]
Notes and trivia[]
- The Mausoleum of Ashes in Kings' Rest, on Zandalar, is dedicated to the followers of Zulathra who died in Uldum.
- Because Zulathra made contact with Lei Shen—who artificially extended Zulathra's life—during his rise to power and then eventually died alongside him, it means Zulathra lived to be in the range of 2,000 to 3,000 years old.

As both "one of" the Zandalari leaders and a high priest, he may have been part of the Zanchuli Council.
